The Diamond Mine 14U took the win at GameOn's Asheville Season Opener tournament last weekend. The weekend started with a dominating pitching performance by Garret Case who threw four no-hit innings on the way to a 10-0 win against the Edneyville Yellow Jackets. The team was lead offensively by doubles from Asher Ring and Jesse Danner and Jesse's 4 RBI day.
The strong pitching performances continued as Jesse Danner dealt five strikeouts in a a complete game three hitter.
Jesse, Asher, Deegan Randall and Tanner Stewart all had multi-hit games in the 8-1 win against Next Level Baseball. Sunday saw us face the same two teams. Camden Crook threw a complete game 5 hitter, giving up only two earned runs to go with give strikeouts. Tanner, Deegan and Ty Aycock had multiple hits in an 11-3 victory.
The championship game was a rematch with Next Level Baseball. After jumping out to a 7-0 lead after two innings, NLB fought back to take the lead 9-8 after the top of the final inning. Asher walked to lead off the bottom half of the inning, followed by a hard ground ball by Deegan which forced an error by the shortstop. After a wild pitch allowed Asher and Deegan to advance, Ty drove a hard ground ball into left field allowing Deegan to score the winning run on a bang-bang play at the plate. Congratulations to the players, coaches and parents of the Diamond Mine 14u team for their championship run.
